When last I saw Dylan it was way back during the 'Night of a thousand stars tour' in Columbus, Ohio I am thinking that's 2003
Dylan played a pretty standard set --I guess he was going for a country/ western feel.
(He was almost as bland as when I saw Neil Young do a blues show at the pier in N.Y. many years past.)
Dylan had No real urgency or angst to his set but then again the Only the Strange that still Remained were just O.K. except when they ventured off into new material and then it became the night of a thousand urinals in a hurry
I do unfortunately still remember somebody had littered Shakedown with tore out pages of hard core porn that was extremely regrettable.
I don't know if you have ever heard Dylan do 'Saved' from the time period of the show you are referencing. It is one of the most difficult pieces of music to listen to as Bob just bares way more of his soul then even today's Christian artists tend to do. The song sucks but the lyrics as always are on target:
SAVED-By B. Dylan
I was blinded by the devil,
Born already ruined,
Stone-cold dead
As I stepped out of the womb.
By His grace I have been touched,
By His word I have been healed,
By His hand I've been delivered,
By His spirit I've been sealed.
I've been saved
By the blood of the lamb,
Saved
By the blood of the lamb,
Saved,
Saved,
And I'm so glad.
Yes, I'm so glad,
I'm so glad,
So glad,
I want to thank You, Lord,
I just want to thank You, Lord,
Thank You, Lord.
By His truth I can be upright,
By His strength I do endure,
By His power I've been lifted,
In His love I am secure.
He bought me with a price,
Freed me from the pit,
Full of emptiness and wrath
And the fire that burns in it.
I've been saved
By the blood of the lamb,
Saved
By the blood of the lamb,
Saved,
Saved,
And I'm so glad.
Yes, I'm…
---
KEEP YOUR LAMPS
TRIM AND BURNING..

Vermoontains,
I don't always have the patience with Dylan finding his inner
muse vocally.
Dylan has a habit of sing speaking his lyrics
(which Weir can get bogged down with as well.)
Larry Campbell has a big tie in to the post -GD Universe.
(G.E. Smith the guitarist I most liked with Dylan -well post the Last Waltz.)
That said this is a decent quality recording and the video is shot from 'Jerry's' side at MSG. (One of the best perches ever for a large arena gig)
Sweet Harp on 'Don't think Twice'
Me thinks the acoustic part of the show keeps the vocals a tad crisper.
Do you think Dylan ever bothered to learn even just a little from
almost any Garcia version of TANGLED UP IN BLUE?
Joey- Listen to the version on Dylan / Dead it is the gold standard in my book
although there is a pretty sweet riff running thru this version.
Which does climax in a killer jam just before the 'clam bar in N.Y. 'vocals
Most of the riff here throughout is not coming from Dylan
but i will admit is very toe tapping by the time they hit the encores.
Acoustic seems to be where Dylan is at his best vocally
but the jams flow best during the electric material
A conundrum?
